Palworld 1.0 Breeding Guide: Combirank, 164 Special Combos, 28 Breed-True

The 1.0 update completely overhauled Palworld breeding. This guide explains the new Combirank system, all 164 special combos, the 28 breed-true Pals, and how to get any Pal you want.

What Changed: Combirank System

In 1.0, breeding no longer uses the "average of parents' power" system. Instead:

  1. Each Pal has a hidden Combirank value from 1 to 1500
  2. When you breed two Pals, the baby's Combirank = average of both parents'
  3. The game finds the closest matching Pal in the database (within ~10 Combirank points)
  4. If multiple Pals match equally, the one earlier in the game's internal file wins (tie-breaker)

Example: If you breed Anubis (Combirank 570) with Cattiva (Combirank 1460), the baby has Combirank 1015. The closest Pals are Felbat (1010) and Robinquill (1020) — since Robinquill comes first in the game files, you get Robinquill.

The takeaway: You can't breed a Pal stronger than your strongest parent. So the "ultimate" breeding strategy is to start with your best Pal and gradually dilute the gene pool toward your target.

The 164 Special Combos (Hardcoded)

164 special combinations override the default Combirank formula. These are hardcoded by the devs and always produce the listed result. Examples:

  • Relaxaurus × Sparkit = Relaxaurus Lux (Dragon/Electric)
  • Suzaku × Ghangler = Suzaku Aqua (Water/Fire)
  • Frostallion × Helzephyr = Frostallion Noct (Dark/Ice)
  • Jormuntide × Helzephyr = Jormuntide Ignis (Fire/Dragon)
  • Kitsun × Astegon = Blazamut (Fire Legendary)
  • Penking + Bushi = Anubis (classic combo still works in 1.0! Wait, no — this is one of the removed combos. Use Anubis × Kitsun or Anubis × Bushi instead.)
  • Petallia × Cinnamoth = Bellanoir (1.0 new Legendary)
  • Incineram × Maraith = Incineram Noct (Dark/Fire)

28 Breed-True Pals

Breed-true Pals: breeding two of the same species always produces that species. 1.0 has 28 (up from 9 in early access). Full list:

Vegetable Cake2 eggs instead of 15× Wheat, 8× Egg, 7× Tomato

Special Cake (NEW)+30% passive skill inheritance5× Wheat, 8× Egg, 7× Golden Egg + 1× World Tree Sap

Strategy Tips for 1.0 Breeding

  1. Always use Special Cake for special combos — the +30% passive inheritance makes a massive difference in the baby's combat viability.
  2. Breed your best Pal with itself first to get a "Lucky" variant (1% chance), then breed that Lucky with another strong Pal.
  3. Use Tower Bosses as parents — their 1.0 breed-true status means guaranteed same-species offspring with high stats.
  4. Penking + Bushi no longer works for Anubis. Use Anubis × Bushi or Anubis × Kitsun instead.
  5. For Legendaries: Most need 2-3 generations of breeding. Plan ahead.
